What is Non-Check optional?

All MYHL games are Non-Check, unless BOTH HEAD COACHES agree before the game that the game is to be played with checking.  ONLY the HEAD COACH listed by the league from both teams can make this decision otherwise the game is non-check.  All referees will be informed of the non-check option prior to the season.

Simply put, it is the same game that the majority of USA Hockey members play and the same game that Mites, Squirts, Adults and Peewee's and Bantam's in Canada play.  The emphasis is on skating, positioning and allows children to enjoy the same game they played at Mite's and Squirt's and will play as Adults.

Non-check games are still full contact, but eliminate the freight-train type of hit and body blasting board hits that a lot in the medical community view should not be part of youth hockey.  Non-check emphasizes skating and positioning while allowing children to grow and mature when contact can be introduced at a later date, most expectedly in high school programs.

Non-check, Travel-rec programs are abundant in Canada and Europe for Peewee and Bantam age players.  There are numerous similar leagues throughout the United States.
